IEA Provides Risk Management Audit Service  For Sport

The last edition of 'Safer Sports' outlined IEA's newly formed alliance with a number of specialist service providers.  Such an alliance ensures the provision of expert professional advice in all the areas of risk to which sport is exposed, including facilities and property, injury prevention and management, marketing, legal, commercial, managerial activities and insurance.  The alliance is known as the Sport Management Network.

A further extension of IEA's services is the provision of a risk audit facility for sporting organisations.

Few would argue that risk management is an integral part of quality management.  The effective management of the risk to which an organisation is exposed is vital to the future of that organisation.  The fact that in some areas, government funding to a sport is conditional upon that sport having addressed the area of risk management, is testament to this statement.

The risks faced by sporting organisations are extremely diverse.  There is a tendency when considering risk management for sport, to think in terms of injury and resultant litigation.  But while these are two very essential and important areas in any risk management program, they make up only a small proportion of the overall risk spectrum.

What policies and programs do you have in place to address exposures such as contractual risks, legal compliance, safety management, human error or personal negligence?  What actions have you taken to protect against a reduction in participant or volunteer numbers?  What has been done to reduce the likelihood of risks such as fire, theft, machinery breakdown or fraud?  How are you protecting the public image of your sport?  Is your organisation Y2K compliant?  The list goes on.

Perhaps your organisation has a requirement for an independent audit of your risk management program - someone who can come in to check what risks have been identified and what controls are in place to manage those risks, as well as providing expertise on further management actions.

IEA Sport provides such a service, offering sporting organisations a wide scope of professional advice via the Sport Management Network
