Australian Sports
Foundation - New Look
Hot on the heels of the
new look Australian Sports Foundation Board announced late last year
by Federal Sports Minister Andrew Thomson, the Australian Sports
Foundation has announced its plans to relocate its offices to Sydney
and appoint two new senior executive staff.
The Australian Sports
Foundation plays a major national role in the development of
Australian sport through the creation of projects funded by the
distribution of donations raised from the corporate and private
sectors. Based in Canberra since 1986 the Foundation will be
moving to Sydney mid - 1998 to enhance commercial and marketing
opportunities.
Company Director Cheryl
Bart will head the Board of the Foundation which raises funds for
sport. The Foundation is the only sporting body which can offer
tax deductibility for donors.
Other Board members
announced are eminent Queensland fund-raiser Everald Comption,
Tasmanian account and business advisor Hugh McKenzie, swimming great
Tracey Wickham, Ian Chesterman and Chris McDiven.
Mr Thomson said the
revamped Board and the repositioning of the Foundation marked a
radical change of direction.
"For too many
years the Foundation has been one of Australia's best kept
secrets," Mr Thomson said.
"Rejuvenating the
Foundation is consistent with the recommendations of the recent House
of Representatives inquiry into sporting facilities."

"With the Olympics
now sweeping a large share of the sponsorship dollars, the role
of the Foundation to attract corporate and private backing for sport
is more vital than ever."
"Through tax
incentives and training, the Foundation will provide valuable
assistance to sports. I look forward to the Foundation going out
in the marketplace this year."
